During her DCA Print Studio residency, Longhurst worked with the ashes of court documents she chose to burn. Mixing these ashes with screen printing medium, she overlaid abstracted images of bindweed onto photographs of the bonfire that destroyed the papers from an ableist legal case she had been subjected to. The triptych is over-screened with court-case ash, run through with bindweed vines traced from an 18C portfolio of engravings of 'perfect one-petl'd plants', which include 46 species of bindweed from around the globe. The bonfire origin print is hung above text drawn from medical descriptions of the structure of DNA. In transforming this material, Longhurst reclaims an experience that was both traumatic and constraining, turning it into a series of powerful and resonant prints.
